My research interests are severe thunderstorms, and I simulate these storms on supercomputers using numerical models. Hobbies include brewing beer using all-grain methods, playing the saxophone, and of course ham radio. I've been an avid shortwave listener since I was a kid and I finally bought some gear and passed my elements 1-3 at the WCARS Hamfest in July 2002. I upgraded to Extra at the 2005 Dayton Hamvention. My station is an Icom IC-718 with a Cobra Ultralight Junior dipole antenna, up about 35 ft. above the ground supported by two trees, one in the back yard and one in the front, with the feedpoint above the roof (not ideal but it works pretty well considering). I am using a Sennheiser MD421-II microphone into the Behringer Eurorack UB802 and then into the W2IHY EQ Plus for audio. I have a weather station on site and report data every five minutes. My station reports to the Citizen Weather Observation Program and The Weather Underground, and links to data are available at my website.
