I held the call NX1T from 1990 until December 2006. With my move to Kentucky,
it became obvious that a call sign change was needed. Too many section repeats
during NAQP CW!!
I received my novice ticket in 1970, WN8HZG. After upgrading to General my call
became WB8HZG (of course). With a call like that, any question why I was
primarily a phone operator in the early years? hi hi! Since then I've had
KP4FCL, KE6EW, NX1T, GM0/NX1T, W8UR (a short excursion back to 8 land), NX1T
(again) and now KY4F.
Since upgrading to Extra in 1990, I've become almost exclusively a CW op.
Although recently I've become interested in PSK-31, PSK-63 and RTTY. My primary
interest in CW contesting. I like the idea that with even a minimal station,
you can still work a BUNCH of Q's... if you just hang in there! My biggest
thrill was winning the Low Power Maine Section ARRL Sweep Stakes CW in 1991. At
that time I set the section record in the low power category using only an R5
vertical and a half size G5RV. I also won the Scotland Low Power Single Op
title in the 1992 CQ WW CW test.. Fun days. Recently I've reconnected with my
long time friend and CW inspiration, K4TD. Rick and I first met in Puerto Rico
while serving in the Navy way back in 1976. 30 years later we're still kids
playing radio. Got to love it!
Hopefully my wife Linda (KY4YL) and I will be staying in one place for a while.
