First licensed as WN4WSW in 1964 at age 15, Vernon achieved Extra class
while in college in 1970. He is currently married with two children and
is working as an Professional Engineer as the owner of his own
consulting company. He holds an ARRL appointment as Emergency
Coordinator for Jefferson County, KY, and is active supporting the
radio needs of the local Red Cross chapter. He was the President of the
Amateur Radio Transmitting Society of Louisville for 1993 & 94, after
serving as Secretary/Treasurer for the 4 previous years. His main
interests in ham radio, besides emergency communications, is
contesting, mostly CW and RTTY modes, and elmering new-comers.
