Biography Info:

Born on St. Patrick's Day, I've always gone by the name Pat, rather than William. As a child I was fascinated with radio and later was an avid shortwave listener and broadcast band DXer. Met several Hams along the way and was encouraged to give Ham Radio a try. Although I wasn't too confident that I could learn all that electronic stuff, I passed my Novice exam in 1977. First call was WD4JLT. I later was a Technician and then jumped over General by passing the Advanced class exam. Changed call to KQ4JQ, but found it difficult for contesting, which I do most. With the advent of vanity calls I picked my current call, NA4NA, which works very well, especially during the "NA" contest! Upgraded to Extra class in May 2008.

Ham Radio is strictly a hobby for me. I'm not super competitive in contesting or other operating. I spend a lot of time with family and have developed an interest in family history in recent years. Anyone doing genealogy knows that it is time consuming. Still I try to particpate in various contests, including the ARRL Sweepstakes and Field Day. I'm a member of Bullitt Amateur Radio Society (BARS) here in the Louisville, KY area and am also a member of OMISS, a worked-all-states type net, both fine groups of hams.
