I live in a condo, so what I am able to do is limited. My condo Board has given
tacit permission for me to attach my antennas to my deck, but wire antennas are
beyond my limits. Even my attic space is too small to hang much.
So, you can consider my station to be "fixed-mobile". I run an ICOM
756 Pro3 powered by 4 deep cycle AGM batteries tied in parallel. My HF antenna
is a High Sierra 1800DX screwdriver on a 28' mast. The mast is 2" OD,
1/4" wall, 6061 aluminum, which is secured to the deck railing. The
railing has been reinforced with steel L bars and 2 X 6 pressure treated
lumber.
As you can see in the photo, I do enjoy the digital modes. I run an APRS
weather station 7 X 24.
I spend about half my time in Florida, so only get to play here for part of the
year. I do run an ICOM 706 MKIIG in the car, especially on my trips to and from
Florida. That setup uses a 102" whip and an LDG auto tuner.
Hope to see you on the bands.
73,
Howard
