I have been in Commuications almost 30 years. Written and been a part of
disaster recovery for 2 major corporations and currently serve as the
Communicaitons Coordinator for the largest Pediatric Health System in South
Texas. Back in 2005, the Emergency Manager came to me and revealed there was an
amateur radio and a couple "closet Hams" at the hospital that was
being put in my care..I immedately got my Technician license and it's been
Amateur Radio EVERY day of my life since.
Being the Point of Contact for Amateur Radio in the Texas Coastal Bend area I
help everyone keep in touch of Amateur Radio and provided information and
direction to everyone!! W5LSS is pretty well know in the local repeater range
and the SWLynx/Saltgrass Linking systems!!
I have deployed the first Radio Room in a hospital in the Coastal Bend and
formed a Volunteer Disaster Services Team that is the GOLD in our hand here at
the hospital. We have monthly meetings and quarterly drills which our second
was just 10/27/2007. I was very proud of our team as we became a S.E.T. and had
71 participants including the EOC Amateur Radio Groups of Corpus Christi,
Refugio, Victoria, and Kleburg County, ARES/RACES of Webb County, miscellanous
Hams in the field and let's not forget the United States Coast Guard that not
only landed their big helicopter with mock patients at the hospital but
communicated directly to the Radio room and was assisted by a ham in triage of
the patients as they flew in. What excitement we had on that drill!!
So If you ever need ANYTHING!! just get in touch with
