The W9HZC call sign was my Grandfathers call in the 30's and 40's. He became a
silent key in 1951. His name was Ben Elliott and his orginal QTH was Lincoln,
Nebraska. He received his call before the FCC divided the states up into 10
call areas. In those days Nebraska was '9'. If you ever had a QSO with Ben,

I was first licensed in 1970, first call was WN6RDV then WA6RDV when I
up-graded from novice to general and then WB5HZH a few years later. I was lucky
enough to spend 6 years in England where I was G5CNP. that was great fun being
a DX station.
I love 10 meters (ssb/cw and fm) and QRP. I always have the 10 meter rig on in
the car and in the shack. I run an Icom 746 at home and an IC-703 when out on
the QRP trail and a couple of Rock-Mites, a Pixie or two and others. We have a
