Pentagon eyes crash analysis on 1,300 satellites

WASHINGTON, Nov 3 (Reuters) - The U.S. military said on Tuesday it is now tracking 800 maneuverable satellites on a daily basis for possible collisions and expects to add 500 more non-maneuvering satellites by year's end.

The venue, dates and theme for GAREC-2010 have now been announced, and are as follows:
GAREC will return to Region 2, this time the Venue will be CURACAO.
The dates will be October 11-12, 2010.
The Theme of the Conference will be: "Learning through practicing".

OSCAR College Satellite Night will begin this Thursday evening, November 5 local time for North America. (November 5 from 2200 UTC to November 6 0500 UTC.)
Expect to hear many OSCAR capable NA college club stations on the air as college clubs are getting priority on the AO-51 QRP repeater that night.

I just worked Ed, W0OZJ on 40M CW. Ed was using his bug and doing pretty well with it. Ed informed me that he was 100 yrs old and just had his century birthday last week. I thought this was amazing and I wondered how many other centenarian hams out there still operate CW by hand?

SumbandilaSat's elusive beacon
Since its launch, the SumbandilaSat beacon has been copied by the ground station in Stellenbosch, South Africa, but it now seems to have disappeared.
The reason seems unclear.
It may have accidentally happened by someone sending the incorrect CTCSS tones, wiping the audio.
Time is being scheduled in the activation programme to reload the audio.
