I am only the second owner of this radio and neither of us are smokers. It has been lightly used for 14 years and is little worse for the wear. The only defects I can find are #1, the lettering by the volume control knob is starting to fade a little and there is a very light scuff on the top of the readout that is almost completely invisible during use. Everything works like new!
The optional CTCSS unit #FTS-17A was installed 05/10/95

For sale is a Yaesu FT-450 in new condition, and comes in original box, with mike, power cord and manual. Non smoking environment, always covered when not in use, which was most of the time unfortunately:) So the radio will arrive double boxed and 100% operational with not one mark on it any wheres. Price is 490.+ actual shipping cost.
You can also purchase an MP-1 Super antenna with the radio for just 45., which is also in excellent condition, never used mobile. Purchased separately the cost of the antenna is 75.
BTW, this model doesn't have built in antenna tuner, or the price would have been considerably higher. One can be purchase separately if you wish, but feel external tuners do far better job, for less money...

I have a bunch of high-quality current shunts. These are from equipment, and are NOT the standard calibrated 50mv shunts. I measure about 0.12 ohms. They show no shift with temperature, so are undoubtedly made of Manganin or Constantan wire.
You can tap the coil for the voltage pick off, or just use the wire to make a custom shunt.

Broadband Terminated Inverted Vee or Dipole
This is a home brew antenna that works well covering 160 to 6 meters with a flat or near flat VSWR.
It is overall 220 feet long and fed directly with 50 ohm cable.
The center balun is a 16 to 1 ratio and coming off each side of the balun is 110 feet of wire. At the end of each leg is a 400 terminated load which should go to a ground rod (NOT INCLUDED). Supporting the 110-foot length of wire is an end insulator. Also included with this package is a length of wire to connect both ends of the terminated load together. This wire would lay on the ground, can be buried or not used.
Power handling is approx. 500 watts SSB or CW.
Performance equals or exceeds that of a common dipole on all bands except 160 where it is a db or so down over a full size dipole installed at common heights.
The benefit of using this antenna is not only broadband operation but because it is terminated, the noise is much lower over a dipole and a tuner is not required. It’s installed and used regularly so you are welcome to hear it on the air or come look at the VSWR curve personally or see it up close.
