I'm using for HAM the JRC-196GM maritime transceiver but I also have all the other components (except the P/S) of the JSS-296 MARITIME GMDSS MF/HF RADIO EQUIPMENT:

- JRC NDZ-127J Data Terminal
- Interconnecting cables and plugs
- All docs, including the original installation files
All equipment has been removed by myself from a passenger vessel due to console upgrade and was fully working.
I was wondering if anybody would be interested to use it for the real purpose that's been designed for... MM - mobile maritime!

Vintage, Utica 650, Heathkit HW17A |

I have a Utica 650 6 meter AM rig, that has a BFO for SSB and CW, I have replaced the defective tubes in it, and recapped the electrolytics in the audio preamp circuit, replaced defective caps in the BFO circuit and bead-blasted and repainted the cabinet due to the fact the chrome cabinet was in very poor shape. It is a black face Utica, with new knobs, and the cabinet is grey. I also installed a very small fan on the back, which can be easily removed, and it has a Turner 350 ceramic hand mic, and a new power cord. The rig works, probably could use an alignment in the receiver, and possibly the transmitter, too, the BFO still seems a little weak and possibly could benefit from being completely recapped if someone were serious about it. It’s transmit power is approximately 10 watts, and I have tested the rig on the air with a fellow ham. It does work pretty good, despite the age, and the fact that the components are mostly original.
I have a Heathkit HM17A Benton Harbor Lunch Box, 2 meter AM rig, re-tubed, all electrolytics re-capped, and I replaced a defective audio transistor in the pre-driver stage of the audio. A replacement set of tubes (good originals) goes with it. I also installed a 4 pin mic plug, as to get away from the hardwired mic, which was frayed and in very bad shape, and replaced the RF connector, with a chassis mount UHF S0-239. The receiver works, and it transmits, comes with the crystal that came with the rig. The output power on the rig is around 10-15 watts. It appears to have excellent modulation, although I couldn’t find anyone with 2 meter AM capability to talk to, it loaded up well into my 2 meter antenna. The receiver works, once again, wish I could have found someone with AM capability, although it was picking up the AM component of the fm signals I was finding. I put a new cord on the mic, and a new power cord on the rig. I did notice a small audio occasional feedback squeal when I tuned up the rig (plate and load) but seems to completely disappear when the rig is tuned up, however, that may require further investigation if it is bothersome for whoever uses it.
Both of these rigs could be used on the air, and I ran both rigs for an extended period of time, and they seem to operate just fine. These would be fine radios to have around to play with since it appears to me they wouldn’t need much work to get to work like near new. Cosmetically and electrically they are in pretty good shape. The manuals and notes I have with these rigs would go with them, to whoever is interested. The controls have been cleaned as well, and the chassis were cleaned up, and suspect solder joints have been touched up.
I realize there’s a lot of folks like me out there who are not made of money, so I am asking for best offers. I'm not looking to make a windfall profit on these radios and I would consider a horse-trade for some comparable older model HF and or 6M gear, ie, a transceiver, a transmitter, an amp, a really good receiver, possibly something vintage like these rigs I have, and for something that works…it doesn’t have to neccessarily work/look like new, but needs to work reliably and have some potential. These rigs are in much better shape now than when I got them, and I know the HW17A is a very rare radio, so keep that in mind. When I talk about horse-trade, I am talking a straight trade, no money exchanged for some HF equipment, preferably vintage and tube-type, and I will consider all offers. Looking for Collins, Heathkit, Drake, Swan etc. if it glows in the dark and has good potential, I am interested…I also could use a decent HF tube amp. Kenwood TS-830s transceiver “Tech Special.” Transceiver looks great, works and has good output as you can see from wattmeter in picture, but digital display is not moving and occasionally exhibits incorrect info. The Yaesu FT-90R 2M/440 amateur transceiver is ultra compact almost beyond belief. It is merely 4 x 1.2 x 5.4 inches (100x30x138 mm), but packed with features and power.
