August 2015 - Got married to Gemma :)

I have been licenced since 2001 as 2E1VAR having graduated to the bands from CB/11m. Originally operating from Brierley Hill in the West Midlands. In 2010 I moved with my partner, Gemma and 3 children, down to Ottery St. Mary, near Exeter, for work reasons.

I'm active on all bands/modes from 80m to 70cm including 4m/D-Star/DMR/Yaesu System Fusion.

My main HF line up is a Yaesu FTDX-3000/MD-100A8X  or Heil Pro-set Elite Mic with a Yaesu SP-2000  speaker and FP-1030A PSU which I run through a trapped inverted L (pictured below), it's resonant on 80 and 40 but tunes nicely on 10 through 80, there's about 20 radials buried under the lawn to help things along.

You'll find me playing JT65 mostly these days on HF.

My main 6/2/70 radio is a Yaesu FT-991 connected through a Watson W-2000 Tri-band colinear.

In the car I use a Yaesu FTM-100DE for 2/70/C4FM along with a DV-Mega Bluestack for connecting to FCS/YSF refelctors.

For C4FM at home I have a Yaesu FT-2DR and DV4-Mini and monitor FCS001-055 and CQ-UK

I have an Icom IC-7100 which I use mainly for 4m and monitoring the local GB7NL D-Star Repeater.

I use an Icom ID-31e via a DV-Mega for D-Star work.

For DMR I have a TYT-390 and DV-Mega Bluestack.

Another of my interests is monitoring airband which comes by way of a Uniden BCT-15X connected to a Diamond X-50

On my bedside table is a realistic Pro-2006 for bedtime listening.

My virtual radar set up is a Moonraker Radar-100 colinear in the loft, 1090 preamp, RTL dongle and Planeplotter.

When I'm out and about on my feet I have a couple of Baofengs and a Uniden UBC-125XLT for use at airshows.

My other interests include aviation, photography, scanning and a bit of Carp fishing when the schedule allows !

When time allows I do a spot of fishing, below is my PB, a Shatterford Catfish, scales bottomed out at 44lb :(

And one of Pool hall's babies !

In the summer months you'll find me pointing the Tamron skywards !

Update 2015 - Got Married !!!

The wifes new motor

Here's where I've been lately

Solar Flux Index - Solar winds - particles/fields reaching planet
No effect on 30m - 160m
<90 Low, 90-100 Av, 100-150 Good, 150+ Ideal
SN - Sunspot numbers/active electromagnetic fields on the sun. - High = Ionization of atmoshphere which helps HF - But when they errupt into flares they can diminish HF propogation.
<75 Poor, 75-100 Good, 100-150 Ideal, 150+ excellent
SFI & SN must be sustained for a number of days to affect propogation
A Index - 24 Hour average of geomagnetic activity - reference for general conditions, affects 10-20m
<5 Best, 6-9 average, 10+ very poor
Ap Index affects 30-160m
<5 Best, 6-9 average, 10+ very poor
K Index - Geomagnetic activity compared to a quiet day, falling = better, affects 10-20m
<1 Best, 2-3 Good, 4-5 average, 5-9 very poor
KP Index affects 30-160m
<1 Best, 2-4 Good, 5-9 very poor
