Passed the UK RAE exam in 1980's; B-licence for a short while as G7IES but soon took the 12wpm CW test and sequentially-allocated G0OXZ.

As a personal challenge I took my FCC exams in late 90's to become KG4VUI briefly and further exams and 5wpm CW to gain the Extra-Class licence AI4BK - currently registered to QTH of G4ZPZ (many thanks Iain) in Kissimmee, FL.

Have operated a few times in the US using the callsign AI4BK... I get some wary responses with my British accent!  More recently have been operating in and around Whitefish, MT at a family retreat... Will hopefully be visiting Whitefish and Canada (AB & BC) again in Summer 2017!

More recently took my Canadian Amateur Radio Certificate examinations in Calgary, Alberta (Canadian and always wanted to do it), and after self-studying and practising loads of exams on-line passed Basic with Honours and Advanced exams and 5wpm test in June 2014.  Result!!  Callsign chosen: VE6OXZ, seemed appropriate but at least I can change it anytime for free (OfCom take note!!).  This is currently registered against my sister's address in Duchess, AB about 2 hours drive east of Calgary.

Locally active in Surrey and West Sussex on D-Star 2m/70cm and DMR 70cm, occasional HF operator but this tends to be mainly from our holiday QTH in Tintagel, Cornwall.

Sysop of MB6EP 2m D-Star 24/7 Gateway/Hotspot in Epsom and Keeper/Trustee of 2 DMR 70cm repeaters GB7EP Epsom/Ewell and more recently GB7HR at London Heathrow Airport, both linked to Phoenix-UK/DMR-MARC with plans in the pipeline to link GB7HR with a repeater in New York and GB7EP to VE6RYC in Calgary, Canada.  Here is view from GB7HR looking out across the airport - you can see repeater antenna in middle of image and old radar tower in middle of airport site to the right.

All-weather advanced motorcyclist and blood-runner (see servssl.org.uk) on my beloved Honda ST1300A Pan European; have been known to be active MM (Motorcycle Mobile) in the past but not as of late.... Next project: DMR with roaming Motorcycle Mobile..... Hmmmm.....
