I have had my amateur radio license since 2006 and am mostly active on 2m and 70cm with a few local friends. I also get on the HF bands and D-Star from time to time.

I currently run a K3 for HF and an IC-2820 for D-star/2m/70cm. I have a GP-15 at ~46' for 6M/2M/70cm and run a G5RV for HF at ~40'. My location is about 850' above sea level. 

This summer I put up a US towers TX-438. It is true that buying the tower is a small part of the expense of putting up a tower.

The hole was dug using a bobcat and a 4' auger. I thought for sure the bobcat would spin instead of the auger. The hole was 4' in diameter and 5' deep. #8 rebar was placed and 3 cubic yards of concrete was poured. Then I had to wait a month for the concrete to cure. The lift assist was installed and the then the tower.
