KC8MTV is not a vanity call, I was assigned "MTV" by the FCC. I enjoy the comments I get about my call, especially from the 80's generation. "Oh cool, MTV (Music Television)." I can't forget the comments from the old timers either, "Very nice call, MTV (Microwave Television).

I am married to KC8NQE, Becky; we were both licensed in 1999, I just upgraded to General in August 2016. I just recently retired from Nokia, which bought out our previous company, Alcatel-Lucent. I had been with the company since November 1988 (AT&T back then), and worked as a Data Networking Technician and most recently as a Cellular Support Technician in Dublin, Ohio. After 6 months of enjoying retirement, I had decided that it was time to go back to work so that I could support my daughter in college and also support my amateur radio hobby. In August of 2017, I was hired as a Cell site Technician with SHENTEL located in Waynesboro, Virginia. This is an amazing job, being involved with cellular communications and working in the field at cell sites throughout central Virginia.

I am a current member of the Valley Amateur Radio Association in Staunton, Virginia. I look forward to getting more involved with other amateur radio operators in and around the Shenandoah Valley and educating them on the benefits of the Yaesu System Fusion technologies, specifically C4FM and WIRES-X.

I am also a member of the Lancaster & Fairfield County Amateur Radio Club, K8QIK, in Lancaster, Ohio, my previous home and where I have served as Net Control Operator, Secretary and Web Page Administrator over the years.

I also support the ARRL and encourage all Amateur Radio operators to do so.

One of my goals here in Central Virginia is to set up a Yaesu System Fusion repeater operating a Wires-X Node full time in C4FM mode. I was just approved for a repeater frequency pair and I am currently working on obtaining permission to place my Yeasu System Fusion DR-1X at a prime location in the mountains.

I currently operate my own Raspberry Pi IRLP Node, # 8178, (simplex 447.0625 MHz DCS 023), and have found this to be one of my favorite projects so far. (see below)

I recently installed my WIRES-X, Node #21625, into a mobile application by installing it into my vehicle. I have my node currently transmitting on 446.0625 MHz (C4FM Digital Mode) in the Staunton, Virginia so that others in our community can enjoy the benefits of the Wires-X C4FM Digital system.

I am slowly putting together a YouTube Channel, The Shack of KC8MTV, please check it out.

I have also volunteered as a Community Watch member for the Fairfield County Sheriff's Department in Ohio and enjoy spending time out in the community. I look forward to also getting involved with volunteer programs in our new central Virginia community.

This is by far one of my favorite spots to operate radio, along the Blue Ridge Parkway outside of Waynesboro, Virginia.

The Yaesu FT-991 has been a favorite here in the shack. Here is a brief tutorial on using the Wires-X rooms on the FT-991(A)
