I will be back in Fiji on the island of Taveuni in early January, 2018 and plan to stay until the middle of March, 2018.  My lifelong friend Glenn built a house on the island 2 years ago and our main goal is to make his house a home.  Glenn will arrive on the Island in February 2018.  Last year we wired the house for electricity, built a 40ft by 12 ft deck, built a platform for a large water storage tank, installed a sink and cabinetry in the bathroom, built interior walls in the house, and numerous other small projects.  This year we are concentrating on a solar power system for electricity.   When I do get on the air it will be a small 2500 watt generator until more permanent power is installed.

It will be good to see my Fijian ham friends, although Raj, 3D2ER will probably be in San Francisco when I get there.

The rig will be an ICOM 706 MK IIG and an MFJ 971 low power tuner for 30 meters.  I also brought an ACOM 600S amplifier.  LATEST ANTENNA CHANGES:  I put up an 80M dipole about 65 feet high broadside east and west and using it on 17 meters also.  Took down 20M dipole and put up MFJ-6217  2 element 17 meter colinear. Much activity on 17M.  Colinear is oriented east and west (USA) and 80 dipole has lobes North and South on 17. Replaced 40 meter 1 1/2 wavelength apex down delta loop with a 40 meter dipole up 70 feet oriented east and west.  Had a 160M inverted L up for a day or two.  Worked UA0ZC and took it down after that.  Property here is small and I must do research on 160 meter antennas.  I have no QRO tuner here.  All antennas I make must have low SWR for the ACOM to "put out".  Plan is to sell the ACOM 600S to Antoine (3D2AG) when I leave in March.  He will put it to good use.

Yes, paper logs like my last 2 visits here.  One reason I can't run stations in a pile up faster.

40 meter Radioworks Big Sig, 210 feet of wire in an apex down triangle.

One half of the 20 meter N4GG array.

Nice picture of the Radioworks Catrolina Windom 40 Plus I initially put up when arriving in Fiji last year..  It was replaced by the 40M Big Sig.  The tall softwood tree is over 70 feet tall.

QSL INFORMATION:  QSL direct to my home QTH  (WB2TJO )

STATESIDE...................SASE ONLY                                                                                                                                               DX STATIONS..............SASE AND ONLY 1 GREEN STAMP

80 meters is seeing the most activity this year.  Seems most of Europe needs 3D2 on 80.  Antoine (3D2AG) handles 80 meters, I am just "helping out.  Please worldwide DXers, , when I send up 1, I will start listening there.  But please do spread yourselves out a little. Most signals are of similar strength and QSB is always present.  Signals are not strong at all...just above the noise many times.  My S meter stays at S7 to S9 with static crashes adding to the fun.  SO I GET PARTIAL CALLSIGNS AND GO FROM THERE.

Been a ham for 53 years and have worked DX.  Thick headedness of worldwide dxers to all answer my call exactly 1KHz up is amazing.  All calls blended in and nothing stands out.  If you were to sit in my chair and hear what I hear, it would make you laugh, or maybe CRY!!  For God's sake, spread out a little...like answering up 1.2 or 1.3 KHz .  3D2 not that rare and I don't want to take up a lot of spectrum space.  JUST SPREAD OUT A LITTLE!!!

Below is a picture of the 80 Meter dipole at 65 feet.  The picture was taken facing slightly Northwest (330 degrees or so).  No balun, just used a Budwig HYE-QUE Antenna Connector to reduce weight.  The QTH is about 170 feet above sea level.

Again I will be checking in on the 7.163 MHz morning DX/ragchew net, and also the HHH net on 7.190 MHz.

Here is hoping propagation will be favorable to all parts of the world.  I will especially look for Peter, OE3PKU. I am making every effort to be on 80 around 0630Z daily, except January 25 which my birthday.  Earlier and I am not close enough to my sunset.

The view from the new deck we built last year.  Fiji may be close to paradise but it's far from everywhere else.  That's why you'll never hear me call CQ DX...every contact is DX!
