Hello and thanks for the QSO or for just looking me up. Please call me Wally!
I began SWLing in 1965 when I built a Knight-Kit Star Roamer. When licensed as a Novice in 1967, I built the "Conar twins." I also passed the 3rd Class RadioTelephone exam and began working weekends at a local AM station. School and work diverted attention from my modest ham station.
I served in the U.S. Air Force from 1971 to 1975 where I received electronics and equipment training to become a Weather Equipment Repairman. I passed the 1st Class RadioTelephone exam and was also licensed as WB4BFA in 1973. Many weekends were spent working at an AM/FM station.
After military service, I attended college and university working in a variety of jobs including lab technician and school teacher. Upon graduation from pharmacy school in 1983, I practiced as a Registered Pharmacist for 29 years before retiring due to health considerations.
Most of my "ham" activity has been since 1985. I upgraded to Advanced in 1986 as KJ4NF and to Extra in 1991 as AC4FZ. I work some RTTY and PSK31, but mainly operate CW and SSB. I enjoy constructing and testing wire antennas, looking at "vintage gear," and tinkering with an occasional electronic project.
My wife and I enjoy viewing the "outdoors." I like studying the natural sciences and generally enjoy yardwork.
Many have helped me along life's way, including "hams" who are now "silent keys." Their grace and generosity made a difference. May these qualities prevail among us.
Best Wishes from Lillington, NC !
