Hello,
My name is Roy, most of my friends call me by my middle name - Travis.
I received my electronics training at United Electronics Institute in Louisville, KY
where I graduated first in my class. It was a 2 year electronics only course, 4 hours a day, 5 days a week, no spring breaks - tuition was $17.50 / week. It was a fine school.
I got my Novice license sometime in 1970 - WN4VMG - I got the First Phone Commercial
license before that.
I started work for the Louisville Police and Fire depts. before I graduated from UEI as
a Radio Technician. I worked there for five years after which I went to work for the Memphis
Police and Fire dept. also as a Radio Technician. I say work, but, to me it was not work, just a continuing education to keep up with the technology and a profession I liked a lot.
Sometime during my duties as a Pubic Safety Radio Technician I allowed my Amateur license to expire beyond the 2 year grace period, so, I had to retest. When I walked into the VE test area they looked at me kinda like " Yea sure " when I told them I was going for the Extra License. And when I walked out after passing the code test and the written test I gave them the look " Nailed it ! " ;-) ...
