I operate primarily from two locations: Los Gatos California, and Peterborough New Hampshire in SSB, "DX CW" (fast, but a very limited vocabulary), and digital modes. I operate on 160 thru 10 meters. I also operate moble and portable and use FM repeaters.

I have recently started to try to work every station I can receive on 160 meters, so if I answer your CQ, please help complete the contact.

I continue to try to improve my CW, so I'm trying to do more rag chewing. I thank the people I contact for helping me learn.

I use an Elecraft K3 and an Elecraft KX3. Sometimes I also play with a Small Wonder Labs PSK-20 20 meter PSK QRP rig and a Rockmite. I have an ICOM 706 in our 4Runner and a Yaesu FTM-10 in our Miata. (See http://www.wvara.org/het/heterodyne_201202.pdf for information on the Miata installation.)

Antennas in Los Gatos are a 2 element wire 20M beam at 8 meters pointed to New England,  a 10M homebrew vertical on the roof, a 40M inverted V at 10 meters, and a common feed 160M dipole and 80M inverted V at 12 meters used for the other 160-12M bands. In Peterborough, I use a portable endfed 40M and a portable 2 element wire beam at 7 meters. I'm always experimenting with antennas. See http://www.wvara.org/het/heterodyne_201303.pdf for information and modeling results on the 80M and 20M antennas.)

QSL policy (subject to change without notice): I upload all my log entries to LotW. QSL upload from the Peterborough NH QTH may be slow because there is no Internet service available at the house.

If you need a paper QSL for any reason, please let me know via email, postal mail, or on the air and I will send you one. No SASE needed.

If you receive a paper QSL from me which does not include a self-addressed envelope and a provision for postage, I do not need a return paper QSL, although paper QSLs are always more than welcome and I greatly enjoy receiving them.

Other activities include teaching ham crams,  cave exploration, cave rescue training, beer and wine making, folk dancing, hiking, and repairing old spinning wheels for the YL (KI6SLX).

I was first licensed about 1960 as WV2NOO. That novice license lapsed without any QSOs. After the dot com crash, my startup company died and I had enough time to get a no-code tech as KG6JOH.

When I took that written test, a wily VE convinced me to take the general test as well, ("It won't cost you anything extra.", I remember him saying.) Well I managed to pass the general test, so I had a certificate good for a year that gave me a leg up on general if I could relearn 5 WPM CW.

So, I "relearned" the code, and since I had some spare time, I decided I would also study for the extra exam. I finally become active on HF in 2010.
