Located in Eastbourne, East Sussex.

I have operated as an HF DX station from some very rare locations in the past ( Southern Chile/ CE_, Pitcairn and Henderson Islands as VR6AT , Easter Island, Juan Fernandez Islands as G4RUL/CE0, Tonga as A35AT,  Cook Islands on a visitor licence ZK1XL, Western Samoa as 5W1FQ,  American Samoa G4RUL/KH8 and Botswana as A25AL) as communications specialist with Operation Raleigh - Now Raleigh International, a youth development organsation. An article by G4AAL on our operation from Henderson Island appeared in QST September 1987.  I  also hold the US Extra class call AC5MA.  As a visitor to Western Australia I held the call VK6RU for a short period, this was a reissue and has now been taken on by another VK in memory of the original owner.

In the UK  my main interests are VHF / UHF contesting and starting radio construction projects - I'm just not very good at finishing them unless they are aerial related!

During 2012/13 I operated in many VHF / UHF contests as G1KAR/p on on behalf of Southdown ARS with G4URT. I am now contesting as a solo operator using my own call from various locations in JO00 on the hills near Eastbourne - Beachy Head JO00DR and near Firle JO00BU. Other sites are being investigated but need long hikes!

Under my own call I have been concentrating on 2m, 70cm and 6m UKAC events since 2015 and 23cm and 4m if time and equipment allow. Currently contributing points to The Drowned Rats Radio Group in the 2017 UKAC events on 2m and 70cm.

All equipment is battery powered which limits RF power output and length of time of operating, so call me when you can!

Radio direction finding - Foxhunting is a regular activity, and I wrote the lead article published in Radcom in May 2012 and run the Yahoo group based around the Eastbourne foxhunters. We hunt most weeks with an informal approach.

If you are interested in Radio Direction Finding Fox Hunt style check out:  https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/Radiofoxhunter/info  Although the Yahoo group is now dormant, (we have moved to a better communiation platform ) you can still get in touch via Yahoo for access to our Slack.com group
