For October and November 2017 I will be operating portable from Los Angeles (Grid DM04).

I will be using the callsign W6/HB9FGQ and operating QRP from the hotel and areas around LA with my KX3 and AlexLoop antenna. If work permits, I might get up into the mountains with an EFHW.

Hello,

I am an Information Technology Architect currently living in Switzerland, an expat from Australia, hence the two callsigns.

My Australian callsign is VK2IT.

I am currently active on all bands and modes, licensed here as HB9FGQ.

My station is an IC-7300 in my apartment in Montreux, on the shore of Lac Leman (Lake Geneva), with a High-Sierra HS1800Pro screwdriver antenna mounted on the garden umbrella on my 4th floor balcony for stealth and aesthetics.

It works surprisingly well, considering that I am surrounded on all sides by 2000+ meter high mountains !

I prefer digital modes, such as FT-8 and JT65 and low power, to keep my friendly Swiss neighbors friendly.

You can also sometimes find me QRV mobile in my Misubishi Pajero with a Little Tarheel II antenna on the back. Rig is an IC-7100. You won't find me on many of the local repeaters as I struggle with the local language (French).

When I travel, there is usually an FT-817 or KX3 in my suitcase, with a variety of antennas, I have an AlexLoop, HyEndFed 1/2 wave 4 bander, and a couple of portable verticals like the ATX1080 and the SuperAntenna MP1. Also a bunch of Buddipole and Buddistick antennas. Depending on location and transport to/from for selection.

Here's a couple of views of the balcony, taken six months apart :-) No antenna visible yet. I had to wait for the snow to melt before I put it out there

And those mountains ... looking at the border between Switzerland and France here. Switzerland on the left, France on the right, on the other side of the lake.
