WELCOME  to my BAREFOOT STATION on the CARIBBEAN (West Indies) ISLAND of SAINT LUCIA. The area of Saint Lucia is 616 square kilometres (238 sq. miles) with a population of 169115 persons. The Caribbean's famous twin peaks and World Heritage Site called The Pitons are on the west coast of Saint Lucia.The world-famous Marigot Bay is a few kilometres north of the Pitons.

TRANSCEIVERS: Yaesu FT-857D and  Baofeng UV-5X3

POWER  OUTPUT METER: LDG  FT-Meter with  12V fused power supply  made from Yaesu  CT-62 CAT Interface cable.

ANTENNA: BUDDIPOLE Portable Antenna System L-shape antenna configurations for mono-band, tri-band or penta-band use "permanently'' mounted  on  a  1.5 inch  PVC  mast  about  1.95 m  or  6.4  feet  above  the ground  to  function as  a  base station antenna. Kindly have a look at the photos below.

POWER SUPPLY: Smart battery charger (12 V, 2/4/6/8 A) with two  of  A123's ALM 12V7 5 Ah Lithium Ion batteries and one  5 Ah sealed lead acid battery in a 1S3P configuration for a total  capacity of  15 Ah. The smart battery charger automatically charges this 1S3P configuration once the battery voltage drops below a certain  level which means that my  radio is always running on charged batteries. That  way  I  continue  to  operate  seamlessly when the  grid  power is  off  until by  batteries  are  depleted! Kindly have a look at the photos below.

I use a portable L antenna because it does not have a big footprint (when compared with a half-wave horizontal dipole) making it suitable for use in areas where space is limited. Secondly the L has both vertically and horizontally polarized radiation.

The L was erected with the Versatee crosspiece mounted about 1.95 m (6.4 feet) above the ground and was configured with antenna arms and/or telescopic whips with the horizontal whip at  90 degrees  to  the vertical  whip.

I use  the L antenna  configuration on  the 40 m, 20 m, 17 m, 15 m, 12 m, 10 m, 6 m and 2 m  bands.

I  have  begun experimenting with my  Penta-band  Buddipole  antenna and  construction details are  available on  the Yahoo  Buddipole  Users  Group (BUG).  Please  e-mail   me  for  full  construction details.

10 m band

My antenna impedance and SWR, as measured by an antenna analyzer, were as follows;

Impedance Z= 50.2 ohms  Resistance R= 50.2 ohms , Reactance X= 2.0 ohms.
SWR was 1.04:1 at 28.850 MHz.

15 m band

My antenna impedance and SWR on the 15m band were as follows;

Impedance Z=47.5 ohms, Resistance R=47.5 ohms, Reactance X= -2.0 ohms.
SWR was 1.07:1 at 21.225 MHz

20m  band

My antenna impedance and  SWR  on the 20m band was  as  follows;

Impedance Z=42.1 ohms, Resistance R=41.0 ohms, Reactance  X= -9.4 ohms

 SWR was 1.33:1  at 14.175 MHz

6m band

I use the L antenna for the "Magic Band."

My antenna impedance and SWR on the 6m band were as follows;

Impedance Z= 44.7 ohms, Resistance R= 44.7 ohms, Reactance X=2.1 ohms.
SWR was 1.13:1 at 52.000 MHz
