I took my Amateur Radio exams in the middle of November of 2014 and was surprised that I passed the Amateur Extra exam on my first sitting. I was issued AF7ML on 11/24/2014 and was approved for the vanity callsign K1AUS in December of 2014.

As of March 2015 my equipment, mostly purchased off eBay and requiring me to renew my past life skills in electronic service to get back into good operation, includes:

Samlex SEC1223 power supply set at 13.8 volts
Icom IC-756
Yaesu FT-757GX for HF
Kenwood KR-7400, Yaesu FT-1900 and FT-2900R 2 meter radios
Beofeng UV-5R V2+ handheld
MFJ-941D manual tuner.

My HF antenna is a home build 40 meter OCF dipole with added 15 Meter OCF wires
The 2 meter antenna is a twin lead j-pole available on eBay

I recently added a Behringer Euruorack 802 mixer and a Heil HM-12 microphone. The Heil mic is a big improvement over the three microphones I tried before it (one of which was a "matching" Yaesu microphone.) The mixer is feeding the phone patch input of the FT-757GX and gives me a limited amount of tailoring of my transmit audio within what the radio is capable of passing. It helps at times for contesting and DX.

November, 2015

The FT-757 I have been using since March is now a backup radio. I bought an Icom IC-756 (not Pro) that had a reciver problem. It was an easy fix that is well documented on the internet as an ESD problem. The Icom seems to be working good from the reports I have received on the poor band conditions as I write this. Going from the old style radio to the IC-756 has a learning curve as it will do so much more. I use the Eurorack mixer fed into the Accessory input on the back to use the Heil HM-12 mic.

June 2016

I have been experimenting with digital modes over the last few months using Fldigi on a Windows 10 laptop going into an Easy Digi kit interface (http://www.ebay.com/bhp/easy-digi). I feed the audio output of the Easy Digi into the Eurorack mixer so I have easy control of the transmitt power using a level control on the mixer. This works very well.

March, 2017

For the past several months I have been using a Heil PR-20 Goldline with the Eurorack mixer on the 756. It took a little experimentation to get the sound I liked. I had to roll off the bass both in the radio and on the mixer and add a lot of upper midrange and highs on the mixer and boost the highs in the radio. All in all a good sound was found.

A little over a week ago I purchased a NEEWER NW-800 condensor microphone and used it for the CQ-WPX-SSB contest this past weekend. I got a very good audio without the mixer. It powers off of the mic connection of the IC-756 so I don't need a power supply either. I can easily go from a rich full audio to a cutting contest / DX punch with just a quick change in the radio's audio setting. These mics are suprising for their very low cost. The down side is they do pick up a little more in shack noise like all codensor mics do. Overall I think they are a winner.
