I was a novice back in high school 1971. Never made Tech and gave it up. 38 years later, I passed my Tech. and did some VHF work in the SF Bay area where I had lived for 50+ year.I moved to the Buffalo, NY area in 2009. Still was enjoying VHF using the local repeaters. It wasn't until I re connected with an old high school buddy last summer that I was able to start using the Tech portions of the HF bands. He sent me his old Heathkit SB-102. I had been a SW listener and had a sloper antenna so I bought a tuner on Ebay and started using CW on the 40 meter band. Having upgraded to General I now use a IC-7600 into a ALS-600. The antenna is a Gap Eagle vertical which I use on 10 thru 40 meters. Also, a moxon for 10 meters is up and running now.  Portable operations include an Icom 7200 with a Buddi stick vertical, and a Yaesu FT-8800 for 2 meters and 440 in the truck.    See you down the coax....
