Ham Member Lookups: 1941

First licensed as KN3OWZ in March of 1961, I upgraded to General in October of that year. The family relocated to Florida in 1964 and I was issued W4KYL, which I held for 38 years. Since I have escaped Florida and am back in Pennsylvania, I requested and obtained my original call.

Proficiency in CW is the hallmark of a ham radio operator; 5 WPM for a Novice, 13 WPM for a General, and 20 WPM for an Extra.

Codeless "Ham license" does not compute!

SSB/CW station: FT102 with all accessories; "junker" pair of 813s in GG.

AM Station: Apache transmitter; Valiant II transmitter; NC303 receiver; HQ170 receiver.

Other: FT857D for local 2 meters and mobile.

Antennas: Homebrew G4ZU super minibeam* at 40 feet; 274 foot OCF wire at 55 feet.

* See July 1958 CQ magazine for details.

PS: No, the tower isn't crooked; I'm a bit askew!
