Licensed since 1979.  Not much of a contester nor a rag chewer.  Somewhere in between.

Primary interest is HF and 6m.

Picture is my first station (circa Fall 1979) consisting of:

  • Swan 350 and power supply (End fed wire in attic and homemade 10m vertical mounted on chimney)
  • Heathkit SA-2040 Antenna Tuner
  • Kenwood TR-2200A
  • Ham IV rotator control (Ham IV rotator with KLM 13 element long boom mounted on a 30 foot light pole.)
  • Kenwood TR-7600 and KPS-7 power supply
  • Hallicrafters S-20R Sky Champion

I am an Electrical Engineer practicing patent law as a Patent Agent.

Vastly prefer paper QSL as it is a long standing tradition of the hobby.  Mail or bureau is fine even if it takes years.  I like getting QSL cards via the bureau years after a QSO as it reminds me of a time when the world was a lot slower.

I write a blog which is mostly about Amateur Radio at Back of Beyond blog.
