I was the Emergency Management Coordinator for the Township of Fairfield in Cumberland County, NJ. There was a Kenwood Amateur Radio in the EOC and no licensed operators on staff. I decided that we needed someone to operate it so I and two deputies took a class and were licensed in January 2008. Being satisfied with talking on the FM Emergency radio I left the amateur bands to my Radio Officer,  I didn't get into amateur radio until 2012 after I had a stroke, causing loss of use in my left side. After retirement from Emergency Services I became very bored and took up the amateur radio hobby to help pass the time.  Currently I operate a Yaesu FT-60R handheld the majority of the time. My fixed station is a Wouxun KG-UV920P-A hooked up to a Diamond v2000 tri-ban antenna, for backup I also have a TYT MD-380 DMR handheld, Baofeng UV-5R and a Baofeng UV3-R. I usually have my FT-60R in 2m 70cm scan mode and monitor the N2KZ Repeater System with my fixed station. My local N3KZ input is 443.700 located in Greenwich, Cumberland  County NJ which is located 7.5 miles west of my house.
