Hi, I got started in radio as a SWL in the 60's, My dad put up a longwire, that and a Heathkit Radio me and my brother put together was our window to the world.

I was licensed as a Novice in 1996, went to Tech+. KB8NFU was the call. I left the hobby for awhile.

I recently upgraded to General and got back into the hobby after many years, hence the kc8wik call and I wished I had continued with the Extra Class but stopped short. A bit chicken I guess.  New update as of 2-15-2016 I have passed the Amatuer Extra exam.

I love radio, some nights I just click on the HF rig and spin the dial, sit there and listen, heck just the white noise of static is comforting to my ears. It doesn't take long before I hear someone calling and I just have to try and make the QSO.

I don't have much of an antenna farm yet but I'm also working on that too. Currently I use a GAP Challenger DX 8 band antenna, it works well and it's the second one I have owned so that should tell you something. I sold the first one I had to a friend over 10 years ago, and it's still making contacts.

I also have a V-Quad Loop for 10 meters going up this summer, you can see some of it there in the background surrounded by an old trampoline frame. I always wondered if I could somehow suspend that trampoline frame and load it up for top band.

My 6 meter AR-6 which has worked South America. I plan on home brewing a quad or Yagi for 6, later work this fall.

The link that follows is a video of a 6 Meter opening, this was a Tropo Event, the audio that you will hear of me is with my RCI-5054dx-100, running flat out 100 watts carrier AM talking to W5VB, 995 miles away, hell he recorded it.. and then later W8ASI using a M2 3 element beam in his apartment.  I was using the exact attenna you see in the photo, 20 feet off of the ground, on a pole, "Antenna on a Shtick", earlier there was a Trans-Equitorial Event on 6 Meters, rats no video for that!  Radio is GREAT!

I eventually bought that 3 element beam antenna from Doug W8asi, that was about 6 months later, see below.

My GP9-N for 2 M and 70 cm.

Here is the picture of my 3 element 6 meter beam up about 24 feet. Thanks W8ASI!

This is a 5 element 2 Meter beam, a home brew made from a TV antenna but it works great, just need to put it up!  That antenna is still on the ground, hooked up my antenna sniffer and it's cut fer' FM, rats.  I will have to fix that.

I finally have the 10 Meter V-Quad up about 32 feet in the air and have it beaming NE right now, weather got cold but I plan to take it up to the top of the mast pipe, then it will be 36 ft. up.

Then for my antenna farm I added more antennas...

17 meter Double Bazooka

10 Meter Vertical  Dipole

The bandwidth on this is great, and it's another "Antenna on a Shtick". I think the price is right.

I will have some pictures soon of my Helical 160 meter homebrew, as well as pictures on how to fix that darn cut fer' FM  2 meter beam!

My main radio is a Yaesu FT991

I love the internal sound card of the FT-991 and HRD!

2 and up for FM I have a Powerwerx DB-750X;  GMRS license WQUI920
