Radio Station in the clouds, a work in progress.
...have clouds in stock, now to piece this place together. Still in the conduit, cable, mount, run, and wire stage. Up and running on 2m 70cm.
I'm building my home, my homestead, and my dream radio room at 2100' ASL in the Northern Catskill foothills. Lots of space for antennas and plenty of trees to tie stuff into. Started my HAM career with a BFF8-HT with a pigtail for my X510 and a borrowed Wouxun UV920p with only 14 watts on high. Started feeling the bug and the urge right away. Added a Yaesu FTM100DR with the X510 at 2137'. I noticed I can hear fairly far, but can't really talk as far, although I've qso through the Mt.Beacon repeater about 75 miles away. One goal is to reach a LIMARC repeater on Long Island my original home. Oh yea, the BUG, so I'm adding a 2m yagi (A13B2) and rotor. At this particular time, with my privileges being what they are, I'm more intrigued by the idea of talking in a hundred mile or so radius, and certainly being able to chose a repeater, as opposed to talking to someone in Farawaystan. Stay Tuned.
Going for my General ASAP, HAMTEST ONLINE is helping.
SPECIAL THANKS go to my good friend Dave (AK1NS)
without his help and prodding I would have waited longer to do this. And my X510 would still be in it's packaging. AND thanks to him I have some serious radio equipment for my shack. More on that later.
