I have been a HAM radio operator, with a Technician license, since 2007. Upgraded to General Class on 08/20/2011. Finally gave in and upgraded to Extra class in May 2016. :)  I live and work in the beautiful town of Detroit Lakes.

Photo taken in June 2014, while on vacation with YL, in Big Sky MT.

10-10 Number - 76261

KD8HAM, is the random callsign assigned to me by the FCC and not a vanity call sign. laugh

Current toys -

  • Wouxun UVGD1P - handheld for local 2M repeater work. No longer have a long drive to work and sold the mobile unit that was in the car.
  • Yaesu VX-6R HT - won this in a contest on social media, thanks to Digi-Key Corporation.
  • Yaesu FT-450D - hooked up to Isotron 20 and 17 M antennas (pictured below). Hope to get these antennas a bit higher up in the spring. Also plan to string up a dipole when the weather gets nice.

Moved to a new QTH in July 2016, and finally getting back on HF in October 2017.  You can catch me on most days around 18.112 yes

With my limited antenna setup, I am currently spending a lot of time on JT65 and other digital modes. It certainly is a lot of fun!

County hunting is my newest obsession. Trying to work all US counties! So far I am up to about 400 confirmed..

I will respond 100% to any QSL. Active with LoTW and eQSL. Directs are answered within one week. SASE optional. Not a big fan of the QRZ logbook, and ignore that for the most part.  New QSL cards for 2018 and the new QTH:

Hope to catch you on the air!
