I received my Technician license in August 2004 and Extra in September 2010. I'm also a VE. I was fortunate to have two great Elmers, Paul N4PXX, and Leon WA4QNO (SK) who both taught me a lot.
My current gear consists of an ICOM IC-765, ICOM IC-271A and a YAESU FT-2800M. The antennas are a TH-5MK, G5RV, and a homebrew 40-80 compact dipole. I also use a RIGblaster plus and a MFJ 1278 for digital work. For 2 meters I use a JTB3 vertical and a 6 element beam.
I enjoy DXing, ragchewing, contesting, and some of the digital modes and also hanging out on one of our local repeaters (146.970) for our nightly net on 2 meters. I am a member of the Virginia Beach Amateur Radio Club (VBARC) and the Chesapeake Amateur Radio Club (CARS) and both have some great and interesting members.
Other hobby interests include being a licensed pilot and owning my own plane a Cessna 172 which I gave up (Very Expensive). Photography using Mamiya and Rolleflex medium format reflex cameras, Canon35mm and now a couple of Canon digital cameras and lenses. My wife says that I could find a way to spend money even if I was locked in a closet, maybe someday I will find a hobby that isn't expensive....
