Thank you for visiting!

QSL: As of Jan 13,2018 I am now using N3FJP Amateur Contact Log. Consequently, LOTW and eQSL logbooks updated within an hour or so. QRZ logbook updated by the end of the day.  QSL Direct: If I receive a QSL a card I will respond in kind with mine. No SASE is required but if one is provided it is greatly appreciated.

I became active in Ham Radio in Dec 2016 starting with VHF/UHF as I need an additional hobby to entertain me now that I am semi-retired.  After a few months, I got the HF bug and got my General License in late Mar 2017 and had my HF rig, cabling and antenna installed and operational on May 19, 2017.  On Jan 6, 2018, I took the Extra License Test and Passed.

Since I am very new at this, I ask your patience as I learn and invariably make mistakes.   Note that  I have had my Technician License since Nov 2005 so that I could fly my RC planes (my other hobby) on 50 MHz (added insurance to protect my 30% 50cc Yak54 Aerobatic airplane).

Setup:

  • 2M/70cm:  Yaesu 7900R used as a base station  with a Arrow 2m/70cm J-pole in the attic at about 30 ft.
  • HF-6M:  Kenwood TS590SG feeding up to 100W an AlphaDelta DXEE 40-20-15-10 fan dipole in the attic at about 25 ft in an inverted V configuration. The lobes are oriented ENE-WSW.  The ANT OUT of the 590SG feeds and SDRPlay RSP that I use as a panadapter. I control both the 590SG and the RSP with a Dell IPS 13 Laptop with I5 core and 8GB Ram.  I mostly operate using the JT65 digital mode using wsjt-x and also operate using FT8, PSK31, RTTY and SSB .
  • RC: Futaba 9C with 50 MHz module transmitter and matching receiver. 2.4GHz and 72MHz equipment as well.

My Background:

  • Born in Calgary, Canada and emigrated to US  when I was a young boy and am a naturalized US citizen.
  • Raised south of Boston on Cape Cod (small village of Hatchville) and a graduate of Falmouth High.
  • Received BS in Electrical Engineering from Cornell Univ in 1980 and started work at Hewlett-Packard in Boise Idaho that summer.
  • HP had a great educational program that allowed me to complete my MS in Electrical Engineering from Stanford Univ while working full time.
  • Retired from HP in May of 2013  after almost 33 years in  electrical engineering, software engineering and system architecture roles on many different Disk Drive, Tape Drive and Printer projects.
  • Currently work part time for a small start up doing IOT cloud sensor hardware design and software for the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries. (A source for hobby funds :^) )
