Recently licensed, I started playing with radio and electronics when I was about 12, listening to dad's SW receiver and replacing tubes in old TVs and radios.  I was bit by the Ham bug in the early 80s and studied for the exam, but never managed "the code".

I studied EE Technology at Miami-Dade Community College, worked as a Flight Simulator Technician with USAF and then Pan American World Airways, and later as an Intrumentation and Controls Specialist with Florida Power and Light, Co. at several of their power plants.  At home, I always had a SW radio nearby.

Emergency communications is my favorite part of the hobby, and I'm most interested in digital modes and mesh networks like AREDN.  I'm a member of the Houston ECHO Society, ARES and MARS, and serve as Communications Officer for Hobby Senior Squadron, in the Texas Wing of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP). I enjoy operating the following gear:

ICOM IC-718 Transceiver
Motorola MICOM 2B Transceiver

124.5' Wireman 511 wire @ 25ft end fed with Balun Designs 9:1 Unun
