My full first name is Willard, but everyone calls me Bill.

I was trained in electronics when I was in the Air Force back in 1976, then spent 5 years working on ECM equipment (radar jamming) on B-52 aircraft. After that I got degrees in mathematics and physics at the University of Texas at Arlington. I then went into the corporate world and had a career as a software engineer working on a wide variety of systems including flight simulation software, Hollywood special effects, scientific experiments, and business systems in the airline and pharmacy industries. I love mathematics and particularly enjoy applying it to create detailed simulations.

Now that I'm retired I decided to get involved in Ham radio to keep up my technical skills and have fun. Just got my initial license in Jan 2017. My base rig is an IC-7300 with the Buddipole antenna. So much to learn! Currently interested in digital modes, including PSK31, FT8, JT65, and JT9. I use Linux, fldigi, and WSJT-X for digital modes. I've done phone a few times, but still have a certain fear of it - don't know what to say when a live contact is on the other end.

I'd like to give special recognition to the members of the Cowtown Amateur Radio Club in Fort Worth, who helped me get started in this hobby. They are a great bunch of guys! They have a vast amount of practical knowledge of radio and always have answers for my questions. I've enjoyed being part of their club and feel privileged to be included.
