Hello, and welcome to my QRZ page!

K7XFM SDR

All logs are uploaded to LOTW, eQSL (AG) and now QRZ, so I hope I have you covered!

My station includes a Yaesu FT-900, Icom IC-718, multiple Software Defined Radios, LDG Z-11Pro II, rooftop flashing loop for 10-80 meters, various magnetic loops, and Shakespeare 318-GBT vertical for 10-20 meter bands. Additionally, I use a Yaesu FT-8800R VHF/UHF Dual Band Transceiver with a Diamond X-300 for local 2 meter and 70 cm.

I have always had a keen interest in electronics, technology, and the way things around me work. At a young age, I started with books on basic electronics and a subscription to Radio-Electronics Magazine and learned through trial and error. I focused on designing and building audio processors and "effects" for guitars for years. However, as with most other technology, what was once accomplished through circuit design and carefully selected components, is now achieved through sophisticated software that is easy to use and has almost unlimited possibilities. Amateur radio is experiencing similar development with Software Defined Radio.

Overall, spending time with my family and friends, playing music, and amateur radio are favorite pastimes. I'm active on HF and regularly monitor 146.520 MHz simplex in the Phoenix area. Digital modes and Broadband-Hamnet (HSMM-Mesh) are also areas of interest.

Thank you for visiting my page!

Broadband-Hamnet Get Involved

Broadband-Hamnet is ham radio's broadband data network without wires. Linksys WRT54G family and Ubiquity routers are flashed with new firmware and require a minimal amount of configuration to become a fully operational node on the network. Nodes automatically connect to other HSMM-Mesh nodes whenever one is within "traditional" wireless range. Improved firmware offers extended access to advanced router features such as the ability to increase transmit power levels thereby imporving the router's overall efficiency. In addition, high-gain antennas and amplifiers can be used to connect nodes over a greater distance (up to 10 miles) at high data rates. Applications for VOIP, video, IRC, file server, and more are currently being tested.

If you live in the Phoenix area and would like to get involved and be part of the Mesh, visit Phoenix HSMM-Mesh to learn more and tune to 146.520 MHz simplex where others involved often monitor and talk about Mesh testing and development.Get involved today with ham radio's broadband data network!

Radio-Electronic Magazine History

Radio-Electronics was published under various titles from 1929 to 2002. Hugo Gernsback started it as Radio-Craft in July of 1929 and the title was changed to Radio-Electronics in 1948. In July 1992, the name was changed to Electronics Now and after 1999 it was merged with Popular Electronics to become Poptronics. Gernsback Publications when out of business in December 2002. The last issue was dated January 2003.Radio-Electronics was full of great information and practicle projects for people interested in electronics.

Around 1971, many authors who used to contribute to Popular Electronics started writing for Radio-Electronics. There was some competition in digital logic projects between Radio-Electronics and Popular Electronics. In September 1973, Radio-Electronics published Don Lancaster's "TV Typewriter" and in July 1974 it published Jon Titus's "Mark 8 Personal Minicomputer". However Popular Electronics published the most famous project in January 1975 with the MITS Altair 8800 computer.

In 1975, Radio-Electronics had a monthly paid circulation of 163,000 (January 1976, page 106).
