I'm a relatively new ham, and so far I've only worked locally & regionally on VHF/UHF repeaters with my two Baofeng UV-82HP HTs. I'm a fairly regular participant at the Saguaro NTS VHF net, and have greatly enjoyed learning to originate, pass and deliver traffic. I'm also starting to get interested in public service work after volunteering as an aid station radio operator for the 2015 Tucson Marathon.
In the future, I'd like to invest in a decent, entry-level HF rig for my home and learn about antenna design and construction. I've been an amateur carpenter/contractor for much of my life, having grown up in an old New England woodframe house where things broke all the time. My dad and I spent a lot of time drilling holes in things, replacing windows and taking on other house projects. I hope to bring some of these skills to bear in homebrewing an antenna.
I monitor the EAARS repeater network most evenings starting shortly before the Saguaro NTS net at 6:30. I'd love to receive a radiogram from you (use the street address above; no phone number necessary) if you want to schedule a QSO or are just looking to say hi. Learning about the NTS system has been fascinating for me, and I hope to do my part to help promote its usage and effectiveness.
