I'm a mamallian bipedal humanoid between 1.5 and 3 meters tall.

I'm new to amateur radio, but I'm not not to electronics. My background includes vocational electronics courses that includedDC, AC, digital and microprocessor basics. I followed up that with some US Army Calibration training at Lowry Air Force Base courtesy of the National Guard. I've worked in a small shop attached to a Radio Shack dealer store in my home town, which gave me some component level experience and computer experience in the waning days of the TRS-80 and the dawn of the MS-DOS era. We also did some 2 way radio, car audio, C Band dishes... pretty much everything that was in the consumer electronics sector in the 80's.

I stuck with computers. I've been in over 2 dozen jails- installing enhanced 911 call taking equipment. These days I do network administration for a TV station in one of the smaller US markets. Despite the size of the market, we were one of the first 100 TV stations to have an HD local newscast. During my tenure, we've migrated from tape based news gathering to an all digital workflow.

When I'm not being a computer geek, or communicating with you folks, I'm doing medieval reinactment, reading some sci-fi, homebrewing mead or beer, or who knows what else.

My station currently consists of:

  • Icom IC-7300 on a OCF dipole at 30 feet AGL or a Workman Bandit II (Antron 99 clone) 28 feet AGL.
  • Kenwood TM-241A feeding a Radio Shack grounplane for scanners (just happens to be the right length for 2m. Thanks, nameless engineer at Tandy!) 32 feet AGL.

My mobile consists of a Radio Shack HTX-10 feeding a radio shack magnetic mount base loaded antenna, and a Alinco DR-605 going into a dual band magnetic mount.

The only non-voice work I've done so far has been packet, including a number of ISS passes over the area. Hey, I'm a space nut, gotta get something personal out of the space program is NASA isn't gonna let me take a ride! LOL
