I started in Amateur Radio when I was stationed at the Naval Magazine in Guam, in 1957/1958. I assisted in the operation of station KG6AID, licensed to the base and operated by a general class licensee who was a medic on the base. After my discharge, I was licensed as a Novice, holding WV6EHT in 1959. In those days, you could only hold a Novice license for 1 year and had to either upgrade or drop out. I let my license expire as I was getting started with my professional life and starting a family.

In 1984, I again licensed as a Novice, KB6DRR. I operated for 3 days as a Novice and had taken and passed my General license exam and was issued N6KFR. In 1991, I upgraded to Advanced class, KK6ZZ.
