Welcome!

Received my Tech ticket in October of 2012, my General ticket in November of 2012, and my Extra ticket in January of 2013. Put up my first vertical in July of 2013.  I have already met several great people along the way that continue to help me learn what the hobby is all about. My friends, W4SV and WA9KRT, are two of the nicest and smartest people I know. They have been HAMs for decades and do a great job of keeping the hobby alive.

It seems amazing to be able to communicate around the globe with limited effort. I do everything I can to send a "hard-card" to everyone I contact unless they are unable to receive the card.

The OMISS group is a great bunch of people who promote fun in the hobby.  They are a great group of people and offer help to many new amateurs during their nets on seven HF bands.

Located in Hebron, Indiana. Hebron is a rural town with open skies and flat land. The only bad atmospheric issue around here is WIND!!! Constant winds from the west can make it a challenge if I ever decide to elevate my antennas.

Greatest lesson learned: If you live in Indiana and want 90-100 degree temperatures for a week straight, start digging a 120' trench...

If I am DXing, I will usually say I am near Chicago. It is about an hour drive to reach the city limits from here. My county (Porter) is on the southern tip of Lake Michigan.

Callsign:

Started as KC9WSP, quickly changed to W1RUN (before I knew what I was doing). I got tired of explaining why I had a "1" Region but was in Indiana.  I found KK9KK was available and knew it would be an easy one for people to remember.

QSL Options:

As I said before, I will gladly send cards. Send them direct or via bureaus in OMISS. Our mail seems to be good. I will reply to 100% of the cards that I receive. I also will log eQSLs when mailing becomes impossible. I haven't done LOTW yet because I have been too lazy to sit down and learn it.

  Another January day in paradise!

73,

Rich
