I passed my Technician exam on 12 Jul 2014 and received my call sign on 17 Jul 2014.  My "base station" rig is a Baofeng BF-F8+ HT connected to a roll-up Slim JIM.  I recently added a Yaesu FTM-2900 to the car.  I had been running the HT when mobile connected to a Comet CA-2x4SR, but the Yaesu is a much better fit!.  I am currently studying for the General exam and learning CW as well.

I'm a IT guy by trade (Unix/Linux admin) and imagine that I will start fiddling with digital modes at some point once I acquire or build the necessary gear.

Check out my blog, The Fat Penguin!

UPDATE:

I have been working on several certifications and now hold FEMA IS-100, IS-200, IS-700 and IS-800 certifications.  I also am a certified SKYWARN storm spotter for the Nashville, TN (OHX) NWS WFO.
