Most of my life I have had an interest in radio and electronics. But it was the discovery of digital modes like PSK31, WSPR, and D-Star that finally gave me the motivation to get licensed in 2016. I started out with an Icom ID-51a but couldn't reach any D-Star repeaters from my QTH so I put togeter a Pi-Star hotspot and was able to immediatly make contacts all over the world.

Before purchasing a HF transceiver, I spent almost a year learning about antennas by building an antenna analyzer, various baluns and ununs, and a BITX40.

Once I had an antenna that worked well (43ft vertical wire with a 9:1 unun and a choke) I bought an Icom IC-7300. It tunes up on 10/12/15/20/30/40 and the built-in sound card and USB interface are great for digital modes.

I'm learning about HF and look forward to QSOing with you.
