Ham Member Lookups: 97

Hello and 73's!  I am a new Ham as of this year (2017) and I am really enjoying this hobby.  I have always had an Interest in amateur radio and shortwave listening.  Like many in this hobby, I built a couple of crystal radios in my youth and eventually bought a shortwave receiver and strung a wire from my bedroom window to a nearby tree.  As I grew into adulthood, military service, marriage, career and raising a family kept me too busy to pursue this facinating hobby.   Now that I have retired from 30 years in law enforcement and am working part time, I have had the time to study and obtain my amateur radio license at last.  I operate from a modest station consisting of a Yaesu FT-857d, a military surplus Barker and Williamson antenna tuner and my choice of a ground mounted Hygain vertical antenna or an end fed wire connected to a 9:1 unun.  In my short time on HF, I have managed to QSO from Hawaii to eastern Europe at 100 watts or less.  That's what keeps me coming back to my shack most evenings!

I look forward to QSO with you soon!
