Originally fostered into an interest in electronics by the urge to tinker with things, repaired various radios of the receiving variety before being showed ham radio and then largely forgot about it until the opportunity to do a night school course for the RAE came up. Was more interested in the VHF and technical side of things, but later developed the urge to build, so just had to learn the code didn't I? Swopped the G7 and 2E0 for the current one - weeks before they did away with the code requirement ho hum.

Previous holder of UK licences G7AKD and 2E0ACM. Holder of US licence AI4LB. Organiser and chief cook & bottle washer for the Riggwelter Special Events Group responsible for such as GB2MSF, GB5WR, GB6RMT and GB6VMR. Not a fan of SSB contests on HF as usually only on the air at weekends. More often seen drawing lines down your waterfall on PSK and RTTY. Partly responsible for IPA (Inns & Pubs on the air) as we wanted an excuse to do GB2TH.

Also been known to hit large bits of metal with a hammer, change sleepers (railroad ties) and mind a quaint little railway crossing somewhere in Yorkshire.

Richmond Raynet's Group Controller for 2 years, and instructor at the Ripon & District ARS.

Recently rediscovered the delights of VHF contesting, you'd be surprised at what you can do, even with somewhat antiquated kit.
