Hi, I live in Gloucester, a cathedral city in the west of England. After being a keen SWL back in the 1960s I decided to take up amateur radio again as a project for my retirement. I obtained my foundation licence (M6CBY) in September 2011, my intermediate licence (2E0CMD) in May 2012 and finally my full licence in October 2012.
I am now happily retired having spent 34 years working for Hewlett Packard and also 3 years working for Eddystone Radio back in the 1970s.
My equipment consists of an Icom IC-7410 for HF and a Yaesu 857D which is used for 2m & 70cm at home and working HF portable around the country from our touring caravan. I only have a small garden so any sort of antenna farm is out of the question. There is an Inverted L which works (or at least tunes!) on all bands 10m - 80m. Now, with a 12m Spiderpole I have the ability to deploy (and tear down before the neighbours notice!) single band, inverted-V dipoles for 6m - 40m.
You can find me on most bands working SSB,PSK & JT65A. I also work through the SO-50 & Lilacsat-2 satellites with a Yaesu FT-60E and Arrow antenna, although I can only track the satellites for about 5 minutes between the rooftops!
M0HFY/P operating from the caravan.......... Accompanied by the SWLS!
