I earned my Technician license in 2003 and worked 6M with an IC-706 (original). I sold the Icom and was inactive for a few years until I passed the General exam in 2009 and earned my Extra class operator license in 2012.

My setup  is an IC-7300 and a KPA500 amplifier. It's a marvelous rig and I use it for all modes of transmitting. I do  a lot of digital modes, JT65, FT8, RTTY & PSK31 using the built in sound card. After earning my General license I've owned a number of rigs begining with a Kenwood TS-520SE with remote VFO, DG-5 display and matching antenna tuner. Next was an Icom IC-746, followed by a Yeasu FTdx3000D, a Flex 6300 and then the KX3 when I decided to experiment with portable operations. Things change and portable operating is not possible now so I sold the KX3 and replaced it with the IC-7300. As you can see, I only have one rig in the shack at a time.

I'm using a RadioWavz DX 80 OCF which is shortened with coil loading. It has good SWR over the entire 80 meter band, as well as 40M and 20M. 10M is claimed too, but conditions prevent me from testing. I built a 15M & 30M dipole using traps which works really well on 30. Not much happening on 15 for me at this time.. I'm in the process of putting up a hexbeam on a 30' mast. Had to take down a few more trees to make it fit. Going with 20/17/15 & 10 meters. Hoping that it'll improve my results.

I enjoy working digital modes, PSK, RTTY and JT65 as well as phone. I'm currently working on my code skills to start working CW.

My vanity call sign, N1TCH, "looks" like the nickname that I've been known for for most of my life. It's my second vanity call, the first was N2KIP, NKIP being the call sign for the ship that I served on for 2 years.

i've earned the DX Century Club Award 60,842 in July 2015 and the DX Century Club Phone Award 43,408 in November 2015. I've also earned WAC for mixed, digital and phone modes as well as WAS and WAS Phone and digital.

I grew up in Schenectady, NY and graduated from Mont Pleasant HS, a early STEM program HS, with a College Preparatory Technical Electrical diploma. I then spent 2 years in the Navy mostly on the deck force of a Fletcher class destroyer, USS Hunt (DD-674). Thanks to my HS education I finished my tour as a petty officer 3rd class Fire Control Technician (Gun). We were in the North Atlantic and North Sea from December 1961 to March 1962 as a result of the Berlin Wall crisis on a people to people cruise to display solidarity with Germany. During this time we visited Portsmouth England; Rotterdam, Holland; Hamburg, Germany and Rota (Cadiz), Spain. From March through June we were a recovery ship for a Project Mercury orbital flight and also participated in ASW exercises off of New England. In July 1962 the ship's homeport was changed to Mayport, Fl. from Newport, RI and resumed Naval Reserve training.

After serving in the Navy I attended Alfred University in Alfred, NY and earned a BS in Ceramic Engineering graduating in 1969.

We've in New Hampshire for 40+ years.

I retired from OSRAM Sylvania in May 2015 after 20 years in IT positions mostly as a business analyst for SAP applications.

Direct QSL no return postage or envelope needed. I'll respond as soon as I get a card.
