2016/5/5 Well I went and got on the shorter callsign bandwagon.  My new call arrived and it is now N4MAV.  Will it help?  Probably not. :)  But I do like it.  Now trying to find everything with KG4MAV is getting hard to do so they will be changed as I run accross them.  I also need to get on the air more, I haven't had an HF QSL since 2015. :(

I served in the U.S. Navy for 16 years before getting hurt on board ship, I was given a medical retirement in 1988. I then moved from Virginia Beach, VA. to The mountains of South Western Virginia to be near my family. I was born and raised in Unionville, Ct. I became interested in amateur radio in the early 2000's and studied for the technicians test and passed that before becoming totally reliant on pain killers for the injury in the Navy. I passed my general 8/2/08, after having surgery to restore the nerves in my back, (which has helped get me off of the pain killers for the most part.) and have enjoyed the new privileges that come with it.

While recovering from surgery, I started building kits from electronics to toys to robotics. I have totally enjoyed the experience and now have plans to build an SDR radio kit. (hopefully it's got good directions.) I have been studying the Navy's electronics technician training course and am having a lot of trouble wrapping my head around the formulas.  .

In the last few years now I have been investing into Yaesu System Fusion gear.  I have the DR-1x repeater, An FTM-400D and XD and a FT1D.  This started after reading about it and the "free" repeater offer from Yaesu to do testing on the DR1x.  Then of course I had to get radios to play...er work with and it kinda got out of hand...AGAIN! :>)  Our local Club, the Floyd Amateur Radio Society was on the beginning of the Fusion program and with the 147.210 repeater and the older DR1 we are set for a long time.  As to my repeater, it is up and running on 443.350 although the antenna is far from ideal.

I have an Icom IC-706m2g for mobile, FT-2000D and the DMU-2000, FT-847, 2-FT-8800's, FT-5100, FT-2700rh, FT-736, Alinco DR-235, and 2 Kenwood TH-F6A ht's. As for antennas, I have for HF a Mosley CA-33 beam at 40 feet, a 40-10 OC dipole,a 160 to 6 meter OCD, and a Butternut vertical HF-9V. For 144, 220, and 440 I have a diamond duel band, a ringo ranger and a 2 meter, 6 meter, and a 440/220 beams at about 47 feet.
