In the late seventies, I was a young teenager interested in CB radio. My uncle, Tom Owens, KB5SS, introduced me to Amateur radio. I first obtained novice class license at age 13 under call WB5EBO. By age fifteen, I had mastered CW and passed the advanced test and was upgraded to N5BKV. After highschool, I lost much of my interest in HAM radio through college and graduate school. However, after marriage, I'm now in my mid thirties and the interest is comming back. Over the years I have owned the following HF rigs: Heathkit SB101; Kenwood TS530S; Drake TR4 twins; Yeasu FT890; Yeasu FT1000; Yeasu FT900-AT. The best of the bunch was the FT1000. Over the years I have also owned numberous 2 meter rigs, probably too numerous to remember then all, but my first was a CLEGG 25w. unit. Over the years I remember a Sears crystal rig, a couple of kenwood synthesized mobile rigs, Kenwood, Santec, and Yeasu HT's. They all seem to come into my life and then disappear at flea market sales when I get short on cash, or board.... Now I have two Yeasu FT8500 dual banders and an Ft2500 for mobil rigs, and an Alinco DJ190 HT. My life now is very busy with my law practice and my 2 year old son. My wife does not support the hobby because it takes financial and time resources away from the focus of the family. She is probably right based upon the way that I have utilized the hobby in the past. I'd like to get one of the new DSP HF rigs and get back into HF. But I'll have to find a way to make it work where it doesnt interfere with my young family obligations. I'm thinking about mobile??? Thanks for taking a look at my biography. '73s.
