Employed with Grand Trunk Western Railroad (Canadian National Railway) in Michigan from 1965-2000 in Transportation and Engineering Depts. Moved to Pensacola, FL after retirement and obtained vanity callsign N4GTW. Moved back to Michigan in 2010 and took my old callsign back (N8ZWY). Presently living in the Great Lakes Bay Area of Michigan in the Sugar Springs resort area on beautiful Lake Lancer.
My first rig as a novice consisted of a Heathkit DX-60B, Hallicrafters S-40B and a wire antenna
My shack consists of a Kenwood TS-590S, Ameritron AL-811H, Dentron MT-3000A Tuner, and an Icom 28H. Antennas are a GAP Titan DX and Arrow GP-146.
Work primarily CW on 12, 17, and 30 meters and RTTY and BPSK-31 on 20 meters. Member Naval Cryptologic Veterans Association and the FRUPAC (Fleet Radio Unit Pacific). Net Control for the FRUPAC CW net on 40 meters twice each week. Also member of the Ogemaw Arenac Amateur Radio Society, ARRL, Fleet Reserve Assn. and Navy Amateur Radio Club (#676).
Awards include the Naval Security Group Morse Code Proficiency BRONZE Award and the 1999 Museum Ships SSB Award.
