My old friend and Elmer, Mike Schenkel, W5VXU (SK), got me started on my Ham radio journey back in 1977 when he gave me the Novice test. In those days the Novice license wasn't renewable, you either upgraded your license before it expired or you took the test over. Passed the General Class 13 wpm CW and written element in 1979 at the FCC's San Francisco,Ca. field office. Took the 20 wpm CW, Advanced and Extra Class written elements in 1980 at the Dallas, Tx. FCC field office and received the call KI5P which I held until 1997.

Ham Radio is a great hobby and I have enjoyed every minute of it. If you are a new Ham find yourself an Elmer and get on the air as soon as possible. Stay active!

I work mostly CW and some digital modes, no SSB. I also like to visit with my friends on 220, a fun band that could use your participation.

Thanks for stopping by.

If I'm not on the radio I'm probably tinkering with one of my old garden tractors. I try to restore one every winter as a second hobby. This winter's project -2017- is a 1970 Massey-Ferguson MF10. The little 1960 Wheel Horse Suburban below is one I restored several years ago. It also appears at TractorData.com http://www.tractordata.com/lawn-tractors/000/2/9/291-wheel-horse-400.html

I use this tractor to raise and lower the hinged tower pictured above. When you get old like me you have to get creative to get things done.
