NM5EV is the vanity call we selected for our club, to represent New Mexico Five Estancia Valley.

EVARA, the Estancia Valley Amateur Radio Association, was formed in May 2005, in Torrance County, New Mexico, as support for emergency communications.  Since not all charter members were interested in emergency communications, the focus was expanded to include all amateur radio activities.

This club is growing and expanding, from its original eight members, but it is still small and very locally oriented.  We try to appeal to those who are hams, or are interested in ham radio, in our geographic area, and we hope to offer activities that will be of interest for all.

The Estancia Valley is a large and highly rural valley in east-central New Mexico, with only very small towns in Torrance County (the largest with an estimated 2,000 population) some 40 miles east of Albuquerque - and on "the other side of the mountains."

At present our club mailing address is as shown, in the community of McIntosh, NM, which consists of a lot of alfalfa fields and ranches, and one post office.

Our center of activities is in Moriarty, NM (the "Big City Of the Valley") where we meet monthly at the TA Truck Stop.  Meetings are the second Saturday of each month, at 9 AM, in the reserved room in the TA Cafe.  Anyone interested in learning more about amateur radio, as well as licensed hams, is welcome to attend.

At present we have the use of an old TV remote truck as a club station.  This rig is owned by Daniel Starks, KD7UFS, and he has offered full use of it.  It has a 40 foot mast on which is mounted a triband beam, and a TS480 mounted in the rack. We hope to soon add an Icom 2720H to the mess, and an inverted vee for 80 and 40, giving us full HF through UHF coverage.

We have a brand new web site, where news about the club will be posted.  The URL is:  www.qsl.net/nm5ev   Drop in often and see what we are doing!
