Old News: I PASSED MY EXTRA!!! July 14, 2013 --My 12yo Son Passed Technician!!!

FYI - I now have a 2x1 Call, I was KB8WOQ

I QSL direct most of the time, and I will return one to you if it comes here first - NO SASE or Green Stamps Needed. My sons and I love to check the mailbox for new QSL Cards. I also LoTW and eQSL as well.

My two Elmers, WA8FTW and KB8CH, got me into HAM Radio quite some time ago!

(I was very young in WA8FTW's Shack seen below).

I passed my Technician PLUS (Yes WITH CODE!!!) back in 1996. I logged some long distance QSOs in 2002 when the 10M band had opened wide - France, Brazil, Russia, California, Canada... I only use a Icom 746 with a G5RV strung N/S on my property. My father - KB8CH - went silent when he lost all his hearing over 10 years ago, My Elmer, WA8FTW, went silent key a few years ago, and I lost interest. We were always on 146.88/LEARA, even when I moved "south" to Buzzard Country.

My oldest son has just past his Technician Test (at 13!),the youngest is studying hard!I am still running my Icom 746, and a Yeasu FT-1500M tied into the KPC3+ and a Motion Computing M1300. I just got a Yeasu VX-8GR, and I hope that there is a digi local to the Cuyahoga National Forest where I mentor as a Merit Badge Conselor for Hiking!

I have my own DigiPeater (Buzzard Country Digi), dual monitor display for my maximizing the digital modes (mostly BPSK-31), and other assorted odds and ends. I love QSL Cards, I usually send direct, but if one comes my way you can be sure that I will send one back!

Yup, that is an Astatic Microphone in both the old and the new Shacks. That is the one thing I remember growing up, that old microphone. I found one online, found another Icom mic, and swapped out the guts... works great! and it gives my Shack that one old piece that brings back some really great memories! I hope that the time I spend with my children brings them great memories as well!

I have the Yaesu FT-1500M and a Motion Computing M1300 running the APRS DigiPeater. There is a Yaesu FT-1900 for Local Work, my Icom 746 connected to a Dual Monitor HP Quad, An American Morse KK1 Key (Doug has awesome products check him out), Homebrew oscillator that can tie into the HP for training as well as using it as a keyboard replacement, My SW40+ and a KD1JV Survivor SSB radio on the shelf. I hope to do more backpacking as soon as I get an Icom 703/K2/Ten Tec, havn't decided which yet.

I've done my own Copper 2m J-pole, and it does better than the commercial one, a G5RV for HF. I'm mostly on Digital Modes - TRY HELL!!! You'll Love it, psk31, jt65, and jt9,etc. Drop me a note if you have any questions, comments or whatever...

My Dad's Drake "B" Line twins are back from service, they are AWESOME! They sound better than most 'modern' rigs...   Email me for info on the best guy in the world for Drake Radio Repair!
